The Cool Kid Vs. The Nerd

Posted on April 20, 2012

Win a date with George Clooney.

For only 3 bucks.

That is the Obama campaign’s latest email alert.

I guess when the unemployment rate stubbornly stays above 8 percent, when the housing market slows considerably, and when the debt situation deteriates precipitously because of policies pursued by your Administration, destracting everyone’s attention with George Clooney is a smart strategy.

Especially if your number one strategic goal is to attract female voters to your campaign.

Clooney is not exactly my cup of tea (so to speak), but I get the game being played by the President.

He is trying to be the cool kid in the classroom.

Mitt Romney is the nerd.

Obama is smooth, kindof like that early Saturday Night Live skit.

He is more than likable.  He is the kind of guy who hangs around with George Clooney and Mick Jagger and B.B. King.

You can imagine Obama at the back of the class, with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, being cool.

Romney is the earnest guy at the front of the class who always raises his hands with the answers.

You can imagine him with a pocket protector and with nerdy glasses.

As a matter of fact, Romney would look much better if he did wear the black-rimmed nerd glasses.  Somehow that would make him look more authentic.

The irony is that we live in an age dominated by nerds.  Mark Zuckerberg is a nerd, big-time.  So are the boys at Google.  Bill Gates is the king of the nerds.  And Steve Jobs tried his hardest not to be a nerd, but let’s face it, he was.

Smart chicks dig nerds because they have all the money.

Dumb chicks go for the biker guys, because they have the cool motorcycles.

Of course, George Clooney has money and is Hollywood cool.  And he is available for a date with you for the small price of three bucks.
