It Was a Thousand Against Two

“The battle scene was tense. The fighting was fierce. And of course we were all scared. It was a thousand against two. And somehow, we were able to pull it off. Somehow we prevailed. Somehow we won. We killed both of them.”
I was reminded of that joke that my dad likes to say on occasion by President Obama’s fierce chest-beating on the anniversary of the assassination of Osama Bin Laden.
Obama is trying to make the most of his decision to go ahead an kill Osama Bin Laden. He even intimated today that the Mitt Romney would never have given the go-ahead to the Navy Seals to take out the notorious terrorist.
Maybe Obama knows something about Romney that we don’t know, or maybe he just talking trash, like I am sure he does during his weekly basketball games.
The President is going to guide Brian Williams around the little room where Obama and his gang are watching the activities unfold on television.
It is all just more than a little bit much.
Watching a basketball game on television is not the same as hitting the game winning shot. And Obama is making it seem that he was the guy wearing number 23 for the Chicago Bulls, all of those years when the Bulls were winning those championships.
Sure Obama gave the go ahead, and yes, he had to overcome objections from Joe Biden. But Joe Biden has been wrong on every major foreign policy decision in the last twenty years. Obama’s default position is to find out what Biden wants and then to do the exact opposite thing.
And that worked pretty well on the Osama Bin Laden thing.
But watching the assassination to Bin Laden on television isn’t particularly courageous. Actually doing the hard work is courageous.
Every ounce on credit that Obama claims for himself is credit that is unfairly taken away from those brave Navy Seals who actually risked their lives on behalf of their country.
Obama thinks he risked his reputation by authorizing this operation. He risked nothing. And guarantee you that if the operation failed, the President’s spin team would have been in overdrive casting blame elsewhere.
The President ought not base his reelection campaign on the hard work done by the Navy Seals. He doesn’t deserve the real credit. That credit should go to guys who put their lives on the line for their country.
