Walking Away from a Train Wreck

I never heard of OZY.com, but apparently they were the ones that broke the big story yesterday, the story of how Team Clinton slowly but surely walks away from the train wreck that is the Obama Presidency.

“I personally believe, even if it takes a change in the law, that the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they’ve got,” is what the former President said to OZY.com said about the current President.

It is pretty rich that Mr. Clinton used the words “honor the commitment”, in light of his own commitment issues in the past.

But some commitments are more important than other commitments.

One of my favorite movies in history was “The Commitments”, a movie about a bunch of Irish kids who got famous for singing soul music.

Kind of like that Irish soul band, Bill Clinton is inspired by African American culture.  Indeed he likes to think of himself as America’s first black President.

I never quite understood that, because Clinton was pro-death penalty, condemned Sister Souljah and he took political credit for welfare reform, but that didn’t matter much, because he played the saxophone on the Arsenio Show.

I guess it is music that brings us all together.

But unlike Clinton, President Obama actually is black (his father was from Africa, if you didn’t know that previously).

During the 2008 primary, Obama used the fact that he actually was black to his great advantage over Hillary Clinton, whose husband actually is not black, despite his protestations to the contrary.

That caused some bad blood between the Clintons and the Obamas, especially between Bill and Barack.   Eventually, they were able to smooth over those tensions, and the new President, channeling his inner Machiavelli, hired Hillary to be his Secretary of State.

A new book, just released last week, makes the claim that Mr. Obama was so worried about his own reelection that he briefly thought about dumping his current Vice President and making Hillary his 2012 running mate.

Those old rumors proved to be so troublesome that the President was forced to address them himself in a television interview, saying in no uncertain terms that Joe Biden is his best friend, most important political advisor and all around great guy, comments that certainly had an impact on Bill Clinton’s thinking.

With Joe Biden (Mrs. Clinton’s top rival for the establishment wing of the Democratic Party) now tied directly to the Obama regime (on video, nonetheless), Bubba sensed an opportunity.  “Let’s slowly but surely walk away from this White House mess,” he said to himself, I posit.

For Team Clinton, they have to let everyone know how exactly they are going to campaign for the White House.  Will it be for a third Obama term or a third Clinton term?

By demanding that the current President keep his commitments, which the former President, as a policy wonk, knows is impossible, Mr. Clinton is basically saying that he and his wife want nothing to do with this terrible mess that is Obamacare.

And with that we have the official start of the race for the White House,  2016 version.

Hillary has a long road before she gets the nomination.  She has to figure out how she is going to out-liberal Elizabeth Warren and still maintain enough enough credibility to compete against Chris Christie (best case scenario) or Rick Perry (worst case scenario) in the general election.

But it all starts with a single step of walking away from the current train wreck.  And President Clinton did that yesterday.
